Turnout 2000: Reversing the Trend

Voter registration is rising in Philadelphia.

But between 1980 to 1996 turnout declined.

Philadelphia's turnout dropped by 182,320-more than 20%
Turnout rose in the rest of Pennsylvania by 126,937--up 2.9%
National turnout rose by 29,054,000--up 17%.

In 1980, 717,700 Philadelphia residents voted--57.4%.
In 1996, only 535,380 people voted--48.5%.

In fact, turnout declined steadily from 1984 to 1996.

But in 2000, we began to turn this around.
